It’s slightly incongruous to be writing about the inside, when I am literally writing this outside, and spending so much time out doors at the moment. In fact, I have been taking a break from painting and decorating. Since the start of 2018 I have done nothing to the interior, save for a few touch ups and ordering some carpet for the stairs and landing. It is no understatement to say that I get daily pleasure from the soft woollen pile under my toes. I actually take time to notice it everyday because I am so grateful not to have floorboards anymore or the old brown threadbare synthetic stuff that was there before.
But I needed a break. I was utterly sick of sanding, prepping, cleaning up, first coat, second coat, eggshell, tidy up some more….. some nights working until late to get it done. And the dust. The never ending dust which invades every pore, every nook, every bit of the house. And there’s all those bits and bobs which were done so long ago I’ve forgotten they were ever any different, the new lights, new switches, sockets moved, new windows fitted, new wood burners added. Needless to say the rooms that we have decorated (which is now all the upstairs and the snug and study downstairs) I love and apart from the kids rooms they are pretty uncluttered. I love clear surfaces and not too much ‘stuff’.
I have felt very guilty for not doing anything on the house but I’m not quite ready to start again – I haven’t quite got my house mojo back. Summer is upon us and I need to be outside. I am however planning for September – I have paint samples and a vision for the dining room and the playroom and when I’m ready I’ll let you know. But not yet. For my sanity just not yet.
