I absolutely adore this Japanese vintage Kokeshi doll. Each doll is hand painted and completely unique, giving them all character and wonderfully different facial expressions. This one has a secret smile, rather Mona Lisa-esque.
Kokeshi dolls were originally gifted as good luck charms and were considered to bring protection to the home. As you might expect she does show a little natural ageing.
