This is a really special find. It has a distinguished provenance, having come from a traditional dispensing pharmacy and used to crush various ingredients prior to preparing an extemporaneous prescription. As per the norm for pharmaceutical use, the mortar and the head of the pestle are made from porcelain, while the handle of the pestle is made of a beautiful dark rich wood. The pestle has its size marked '4' embossed in the porcelain base. The patina of both items is warm and telling of its history. There is a small chip at the spout of the mortar. This item would make a fabulous talking point in any display.
