An investment piece! A beautifully calm beach and seascape scene in this oil on board, painted by James Carlisle. I love the soft pastel colours, it's extremely relaxing to look at and is signed in the bottom right hand corner.
Born in Australia in 1937, Carlisle caught a tramp steamer to London at the age of 21 and after a brief period in Scotland and Newcastle, (think Pitman painters!) he moved to Gordon Square at the heart of Bloomsbury. He studied at the University College London School of Oriental and African Studies and perfected his techniques. he exhibited at Mall Galleries in St James and the New England Art Club.
In retirement he moved back to Blyth in Northumberland and continued painting. He died in 2019.
